Check out our Builder Bunch Bridge Building competition!Students were challenged to build a bridge that would hold the heaviest load without breaking--then the materials were weighed to see how efficiently the bridge was built. The goal: build the bridge that could hold the greatest weight with materials that weighed the least. Great lesson in ratios!

Chattahoochee Nature Center Field Trip-what a fun way to introduce our Science Unit on Ecosystems!
Dear Mountain View Families,
This Friday is our Fall Festival and it promises to be an exciting evening! We absolutely cannot run this festival without the help of our wonderful parents. We are still in need of parent volunteers to make sure that the evening is SAFE and fun for our kids. If you have already volunteered through your Room Rep, we thank you! If you haven't and can help out, please click on the link below to see if there is a time slot that works for you. We are also in need of more cakes for our Cake Walk.
Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing everyone on Friday!

Check out our trip around the Sun! We had a great time in the Learning Commons with Mrs. O'Connor coding Ozobots to travel through our Solar System.
"No Taxation Without Representation!"
In order to learn about why the colonists were so upset with King George and the British Parliament, we used M&M's as "money". As King George imposed taxes on us (for things like "eating lunch today" or "having a pencil in your desk", the tax collectors took our money. Check out the angry looks on the faces of the colonists! |
SNACKS
Just a reminder that students are allowed to have a healthy snack every day (please don't send cookies, candy, etc.) I do not provide snack for them, but do have a box of extra snacks that was kindly provided by one of our moms. That supply is dwindling because so many students want a snack but are not bringing one from home. When it's gone, it's gone; please send a snack if your child wants one. Thank you!

We love to read in the Learning Commons!
Writer's Workshop in Progress!
Take a peek!
Here's a glimpse inside our classroom as we completed a couple of "Beginning of the Year" activities. We "researched" how long a minute actually is by doing different activities. These pictures show "how many times can you catch a bouncy ball in 1 minute?"! Our first writing lesson was creating "Playdoh Monsters" to demonstrate the steps of the writing process. A good time was had by all!

Welcome to 4th Grade!
Dear Parents,
This year in fourth grade will be an amazing journey for your child, full of learning, laughing, exploring, sharing, presenting, researching, creating, building friendships, self-reflection, and most of all, hard work. I look forward to being a part of the journey and partnering up with you to ensure your child’s success.
Please ask your child what he or she is studying and look in their agenda every night. The agenda is where all homework assignments are recorded. If homework completion becomes an issue, your child will be required to have their agenda signed nightly by a parent.
You should expect that your child will have on average 40 minutes of regular homework every day, except for Fridays. In addition we occasionally will have projects and other assignments that the students will have to work on at home. Separate directions will always be sent home so you are aware of our expectations.
Students should be able to do their homework independently. If you notice that your child is not able to do an assignment on his or her own, please send a note on the assignment. I will email you if your child is falling behind or turning in poor work on a consistent basis.
If you have any concerns or are wondering why something is happening, please feel free to email me at any time. Our team welcome all concerns, ideas, and feedback that affect your child in our classrooms. If something is not working, we are more than willing to talk. Emails are best because the students don’t always remember to show us a note that may be in their agenda.
Check the 4th grade team blog often to help keep you informed about what we are doing academically on the team.
Thanks for sharing your child with me this year!
